Every family tradition needs a spark of imagination, and for us, that spark comes from books. As part of our month-long Mexican celebration, we’ve been exploring the country not only through food, music, and crafts but also through its stories and history. With a mix of children’s tales, colorful adventures, and history brought to life, our little home library suddenly feels like it has windows opening straight into Mexico. Here are the books we’ve been diving into (and loving!):

This one is pure fun! With maps, doodles, and quirky facts, it made us laugh while learning. My child loved spotting the churros, mariachi guitars, and even the skulls that represent Día de los Muertos. It blends food, geography, and culture in such a playful way.
Review:
⭐ Super kid-friendly! Easy to flip through and pick fun facts.
⭐ We read it alongside snack time—it made churros taste even better!

This book is like opening a time capsule. It takes us back thousands of years to the mysterious Olmecs, the mighty Aztecs, and everyone in between. The illustrations are bold and dramatic, which really caught our child’s attention. For me, it’s a wonderful way to introduce the richness of ancient civilizations in a way that’s simple but powerful.
Review:
⭐ Great for curious minds who love pyramids, myths, and kings.
⭐ Some sections may be heavy for younger kids, but perfect when read together as stories.

If you want your child to fall in love with Mexico instantly, this is the book. Bright colors, cheerful characters, and a story that follows two friends exploring pyramids, fiestas, and food—it’s basically a travel adventure for kids without leaving home. Our little one asked if we could go on a “real Mia & Jake trip” after reading this.
Review:
⭐ Perfect bedtime story that feels like a mini vacation.
⭐ Great way to introduce Mexican landmarks in a fun way.

This one’s more for the grown-ups in our family tradition. It’s dense but fascinating, giving us a deeper understanding of Mexico’s struggle, resilience, and political transformation. Reading it while our child explored the kid-friendly books felt like parallel learning—we were all traveling through Mexico, just on different trains.
Review:
⭐ Best for adults or older teens.
⭐ It gave us context to explain Mexico’s history to our child in simple, story-based ways.
Why Reading Matters in Our Celebration 🌎
Books make culture come alive. Cooking tacos connects us to Mexico’s kitchens, papel picado decorates our space, but these stories connect us to the soul of the country—its people, struggles, joys, and imagination. We’ll definitely be adding more Mexican books to our reading shelf, but for now, this collection has given us both knowledge and joy.
Pairing books with music! Imagine reading about Aztec pyramids while listening to mariachi in the background—that’s the plan for next week!
