As part of our Month of Mexico celebration at home, we decided to start with a snack that’s simple, crunchy, and oh-so-addictive—homemade tortilla chips! Making them from scratch is surprisingly easy, and the flavor is unbeatable compared to store-bought ones.

Ingredients for Tortilla Chips:
1 cup yellow corn flour (masa harina)
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
3/4 cup water (warm)
1 tsp oil (plus a little extra for brushing)
How to Make the Perfect Homemade Tortilla Chips:
1. Make the Dough:
In a bowl, mix the corn flour, salt, water, and oil. Knead until it forms a smooth, pliable dough. Cover and rest it for 1 hour or overnight in a warm place.
2. Shape the Chips:
Divide the dough into small balls. Using a rolling pin or a tortilla press, flatten each ball into a thin circle. Cut the circles into triangle shapes—these will be your chips!
3. Bake the Chips:
Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F) for 5 minutes.
Arrange the triangles on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Flip the chips and bake for another 4 minutes until golden and crisp.
4. Cool and Serve:
Let the chips cool slightly—they’ll crisp up even more as they rest. Serve them with fresh guacamole and salsa for the ultimate Mexican snack experience!

1 small green chili, chopped (optional)
1 tsp lime juice
Salt and pepper to taste
A handful of coriander/cilantro, chopped

Tips for Extra Crunch:
Make the triangles thin for maximum crispiness.
Don’t overcrowd the baking sheet, or they won’t bake evenly.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container—they stay crunchy for 1-2 days.
Crunchy, warm, and bursting with flavor—these homemade tortilla chips are the perfect start to our Month of Mexico celebrations. Pair them with guacamole, salsa, or even your favorite Mexican cheese dip, and you’ve got a snack that’s fun for the whole family! 🌮
