Every family has its own little traditions—some handed down for generations, others created along the way. This year, we decided to start something new in our home: a month-long celebration of a country. Each month, we’ll pick one country and explore its culture, food, history, music, and stories—right from our living room and kitchen!

It’s our way of traveling the world without leaving home, of teaching our child that the world is big, beautiful, and filled with so many ways of living. And to kick things off, we chose a country full of color, rhythm, and flavor: Mexico! 🎉
Why We Chose Mexico
Mexico has always fascinated us with its vibrant festivals, delicious food, and deep history. From the lively beats of mariachi music to the aroma of tacos, enchiladas, and horchata—it felt like the perfect place to begin our cultural adventure. Plus, it’s such a kid-friendly country to explore through stories, crafts, and food!
How We’re Celebrating at Home
Here’s how our month-long tradition works:
Weekly Cooking Nights – Once a week, we’ll cook a Mexican dish or make a traditional drink together. So far, we’ve started with sweet, creamy horchata, & tortilla chips and it was a hit with everyone!
Story & Video Time – We’re using family-friendly YouTube videos, storybooks, and even a few Kindle Unlimited finds to learn about Mexico’s geography, history, and festivals in a fun, age-appropriate way.
Crafts & Activities – Papel picado banners, making maracas, coloring Mexican flags, and even learning a few easy Spanish phrases like Buenos días (Good morning) and Te quiero (I love you).
Music & Dance – Our living room has already seen a few mariachi-inspired dance sessions!
What We Hope to Teach Our Child
This tradition isn’t just about food and fun (though there’s plenty of that!). It’s about:
Building curiosity for the world.
Respecting and appreciating different cultures.
Making learning interactive and joyful.
Creating family memories we’ll always cherish.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing recipes, activities, and little discoveries from our Month of Mexico. If you’re looking for a way to make learning more fun for your kids—or simply to add a splash of global culture into your home—you’re welcome to join us on this journey.
So, here’s to the start of a new tradition. And here’s to Mexico—the first stop on our family’s world adventure. 🌮🇲🇽💃
